The Big. The Fat. The Ugly.

Whether it's big, fat and ugly depends on your perspective, I guess. I had just taken the girls out for the last time one evening and almost stepped right on this big fellow ... and what do I have on my feet? Flip flops! Sometimes I am just too lazy to put on proper foot gear before I venture out into the dark unknown of the wide open prairie.

Lately, there have been lots of dead mice, rats and rabbits, brought to the house courtesy of our cats and Ringo, our lab. He has become the most supreme of rodent catchers, although I don't consider rabbits to be "rodents". Someone needs to point out the distinction to Ringo.

We have seen a ton of snakes the last few weeks. And last night as I ventured out, there curled next to the garage was a opossum. "Dead", of course. Who knows if it was really dead or playing dead? Ringo was dancing around, wanting to come in the house. A resounding NO when he's been playing with rodents. GROSS.

I guess it's in my best interests to lace up my boots before I head into the great outdoors, so that I don't get dead animal goo on my feet...

  1. Oh man - a toad isn't so bad but snakes and opussums? I don't want to have my feet near them!

  3. I still want to go outside barefoot, but don't anymore. My neighbor works in his garden barefooted, would think a retired man would not do that, but he does all the time.

I remember last year when a little toad for trying to get inside our beagles pen. Well it did and Leonard picked it up with is mouth and the toad peed. Leonard spit that thing out so fast and I can still see the sour look on his face when he did it....it was sooo funny!!

  8. Yes, I'd wear shoes in the dark, just in case.

  13. Wow....you encounter lots of wildlife. I'd love this feller for the "toad barn" in my flower garden. I haven't seen a toad yet this spring.

  14. Great photo, but I'm glad he was in your yard, not mine. I've had to pull enough toads out of my Lab/Pointer's mouth before he had a chance to chew. Ugh.

  16. My first thought: hooray, it's warm enough to wear flip flops again in Kansas! Woo hoo!

My dogs think the cats are rabbits that got into the house. They get so confused when we won't let them chase them.

BUT!?!?!? A BUNNY!!! IN THE HOUSE!!! BUNNY IN THE HOUSE!!!! BUUUUUNNYYYYYYY!!!
