Small Town Snapshot Sunday
Buzzards roost at a nearby abandoned building; they were feeding on something obscured by the tall grass. I decided to investigate further only because our neighbor has a herd of cattle in this field, and I was concerned that perhaps one of the calves had fallen to a predator during the night. My fears were assuaged, however, as I could not see what it was they were feasting on, so it must have been quite small. I wanted to walk further into the pasture to get better photos of the buzzards, but the heat and flies were terrible this day and I had to satisfy myself with this photo. (Which I wasn't really satisfied with!)

It's still a great shot. The countryside around you makes such a stunning backdrop.
ReplyDeletegreat shot anyway!! Maybe next time you´ll get a better photo of the buzzards
ReplyDeleteGood shot...I feel the center one is watching me.
ReplyDeleteIn my first STSS I have a couple of pictures of turkey vulturs flying over Kingman KS. A year or so ago I spotted a whole flock (10 to 20) sitting on a tin shed somewhere in rural KS. I don't remember what trip it was but that was the most of them together that I had ever seen.
ReplyDeleteVery atmospheric and the kind of picture one keeps turning back to.

ReplyDeleteGreat photo!!
ReplyDeleteBuzzards - wow! I'm excited with the sparrows I get in my garden!
ReplyDeleteFantastic picture!
ReplyDeleteGreat Buzzards! I think you did real well despite the weeds and flies..the surroundings make the photo! At least for me :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can't see the buzzards very well but the shot is really nice - who wants to see old buzzards too close up anyway? Ugly thangs!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they weren't chomping on a calf!
ReplyDeleteCool shot! Buzzards usually take off when you get near them. Wacky looking creatures, though, huh?
ReplyDeleteI'm back to ask if buzzards are different in Kansas - I mean, if the same word is used for different birds in Britain and America. Here, I don't think we would ever worry about them chomping on calves and, I would say, they are very beautiful birds - we always get excited when we see one, whether it is sitting on a telegraph pole or in flight.
