Mama Bird Feeds Babies

Thought we had a grackle here, but it's just a common starling.  Darn.

All the same, it's been fun watching her feed the babies, in a nest in the side of our old garage.  One baby kept falling out of the nest... we put him back twice, but on the third day his luck ran out.  One of our cats must have found him.

I gave him a proper lil burial in one of my new flower beds.  Poor baby.

The babies anxiously watch for mum to come back with lunch... check out those silly lil tufts of hair on their heads!!  Do they look like geeks or what??

Mum's back with an exceptionally yummy bug for lunch!

  9. Amazing photos! We have a robin nest at the corner of our house with three brand new eggs in it. I can't wait to try my hand at some baby bird shots too :)

  10. So sweet! There is a mother robin feeding her young in our yard every day, and she works so hard to get them fed! The babies are about the same size as she is, so they follow her around constantly. The mother birds are fascinating to watch..love your pics!

  17. How did I miss this one? I love the blue and turquoise feathered mama against the hungry orange mouths of her babies. Looks like the third one got crowded out by it's two more aggressive siblings. Poor little one. Beautiful.

  19. Those growing kids just seem to be hungry all the time no matter what species. My five year old grandson eats twice what I do and is only 50 pounds. Where do they put it all. At least I don't have to hand feed him.

  20. Oh my goodness, I am so tardy at replying to your comment on my blog that you left on May 14th, I'm so sorry! I took a break from the blog while my son was home...I'm sure you understand. He has reported to his duty station now and will be deploying to Iraq in July. Thank you for your kind words!

As for your lil baby birdies....oh my gosh, they are so cute! I'm sad for the one that died....you did your best to save it, though. The mama bird is beautiful, I love the purple on her head. These are great captures!

  21. Stunning shots! However did you get so close?! I imagine patience had something to do with it... Plus maybe some tiptoeing?

  22. Beauties! We just had two humming birds leave their nest that was right outside our kitchen window. The mom attached the nest to a large bead. Amazing..
